learning to spin

Here's a couple pictures of my beginning spindle spinning. So far I've filled up my little spindle to an inch thick in the thick spot and wound it off onto my ghetto nostepinne (toilet paper roll) and started again. As I wound off the first spindle full I quickly realized how much I improved in the short time I've practiced. Now my single is actually quite thin and even and my hands don't get all tense and cramped anymore. I've also dyed a couple more rovings to play with but at the speed I'm going it will be a while before I get to use them. I'm trying to force myself to finish this orchid wool first before I start something else. Good thing I only have one spindle.

See, this is how it starts. Your singles are fabulous...nice and even, super fine. Looks like you've got the touch. Next thing you know, you won't be worying about finishing so that you can spin something else. Nope. You'll have another spindle...or seven. And a wheel can't be far behind. Someone with your gift will need a wheel, and soon.

Do you feel the drawing? It's inexorable. And I should know...

Beautiful spinning and dyeing!
