Oh glorious buttons or What the geeks don't know could hurt them
Thanks to Brenda over on the Six Sox KAL list who helped me figure out how to put the buttons on my sidebar. Now I just really need to learn how to read the html so I can really tweak things.
It's funny, but I work for a computer geek (my little brother) who is a programmer in many languages and also does IT support mostly for companies with servers and networks and stuff. I'm still learning what all we do and have no clue how they do it. I'm just the part time office girl. Well, I mentioned to the guys that I'd gone and done the blog thing and they were completely surprised (and not sure they believed me since I refused to tell them how to find me online). Over the time I've worked with them (just over a year) they've been gauging their influence on me and commonly refer to my slowly geeking out like them. (Want to impress the geek in your life? Quote Slashdot.) So when I told them I want to learn some html my geek meter really started to spike... in their eyes. See, the thing is, when you say the word knitting in the same sentence with the word blog these geeks just get the requisite blank stare and speechless expression. Then there's the comments: "I wouldn't think a knitter would know how to blog." Or, here's my favorite, "You can find anything on the internet these days." One of them mentioned that he was going to go do a search for knitting blogs and see just what that was about. I think he needed proof that I wasn't the only non-geek in the world who knew how to blog. Whatever.
On a knitting note, I'll do that later, I promise.
