Talking to strangers is not such a bad thing
A couple weeks ago I discovered a new yarn shop in the little town next the city I live in and got to talking to the owner about yarn and roving and dyeing. She asked me what kind of fibers I'd like to see in her shop and I mentioned some of my favorites (some that she'd really not heard of like BFL) finishing by saying that I really like to buy my fiber *blank* and dye my own. She started asking about that and what I did with it to which I told her that I make more than I can spin or knit and I reallh just like to color things and then sell them on the web (ebay or etsy) so I can buy more fiber to color. She replied, "well, you need to just sell it to me." with this totally straight face and matter of fact tone. Whoa! Color me taken by surprise!
Fast forward to last Friday... I had a little time so I stopped in the shop to show the owner my dyed stuff including some fibers and yarns. She bought everything I brought with me that day!
Fast forward to three days ago... The sweet lady who produces angora fibers that sell in the same shop called me out of the blue. She works in the shop a couple days a week and had been putting price tags on my stuff and declared it fabulous! So she wanted to know if I could dye some of her angora yarns for her so maybe they would sell faster than just in the natural state.
Next day... I met the bunny lady at the shop to pick up angora yarns to dye and the owner happened in while I was there (wasn't her day to work). She sat down and started in on a proposal she'd been mulling over and really hadn't laid out a plan yet except that she really wants me involved. Her vision is to sell hand dyed yarns that are exclusive to her shop and she wants me to be her dyer. Whoa! That was quick!
So there you are. Talking to strangers is not such a bad thing after all.
Right now I'm in the process of trying to figure out how much to charge to custom dye yarns for the shop. I'm probably doing the angora to trade for angora yarn. I'll post pictures when I get a few hanks done... did I mention I'm a turtle lately? I'm making slow progress but progress nonetheless.
Oh, and here are my warm yummy Fetching mitts that are not a good color choice for every day wear... they're already getting a little dingy. Specs:
Pattern: Fetching from Knitty Summer '06
Yarn: Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Aran in some cream color (should have dyed it)
Notes: Fun and easy! and warm too although my next pair will have longer fingers since I'm a cold little office manager.

Hey congratulations!
Hi Jen,
Guess what I'm your chocolate swap partner. I've all ready started getting things together. Any choice in chocolate?
