Knit Sock Kit Swap

I've joined the Knit Sock Kit Swap and below are my answers to the questionaire. I think this will be a fun swap with not only new yarn and sock patterns but a bag of some sort for carrying the project. I'm waiting to hear from my partner to find out what he/she is dreaming of in a sock kit.

The Questionnaire:

What are your favorite colors?
Green and Red but not together. I just love all the different shades of those two colors. And either one mixed with browns might be interesting.

Are you a new sock knitter? How long have you been knitting socks?
I’ve only knitted a few pairs of socks. I’m not afraid of a challenge but I haven’t done enough yet to know how I like them to fit.

Do you prefer solid or multicolored yarn?
Multicolored or nearly solid

What fibers do you prefer in sock yarn?
Cashmere (duh) Just kidding. I did a pair of Cashmerino socks for my friend and really enjoyed them but they pill like crazy. I mostly like superwash merino but I’m looking forward to trying some of that new Blue Faced Leicester.

Where do you usually knit socks?
Easy patterns, in the car waiting for kids or at ball practice or games. More difficult patterns or learning something new I knit in my comfy chair in front of the brain sucking stupid machine (TV).

How do you usually carry/store small projects?
In a little canvas lined basket or a gallon sized canning jar.

What are your favorite sock knitting patterns?
I like the ones that look hard but utitize a simple easily memorized pattern.

What are your favorite sock knitting techniques?
Lace, ribs, nothing too boring

What new techniques would you like to try?
Toe-up, short row heels

Do you prefer circulars or dpns for sock knitting?
Magic loop (I’m too cheap to buy two needles the same size so haven’t tried two circs yet)

What are some of your favorite yarns?
Cascade 220, Henry’s Attic Kona undyed or dyed (I just love the way it feels and I love to dye it), Debbie Bliss Cashmerino

What yarn do you totally covet?
Cashmere lace weight, Lorna’s Laces Lion and Lamb (for Clapotis), Other people’s hand painted sock yarns

Any pattern you would love to make if money and time were no object?
Um, what about skill? I’ve been eyeing all those pretty Noni felted bag patterns for a while. I guess if I had my way I’d knit up a Noni bag in Iceland or that gorgeous Carpet Bag from IK Fall 2005 in Lite Lopi.

Favorite kind of needles (brand, materials, straights or circs, etc)?
ADDI TURBO! I also love those metal Silvalumes for sock knitting I knit tight so metal is the only way for me.

If you were a specific kind of yarn, which brand and kind of yarn would you be?
Brown Sheep Worsted – kinda down to earth boring mostly with a tiny bit of (mohair) fuzz just to kick it once in a while – when agitated able to come out changed but every bit as useful as before …sometimes more so.

Do you have a favorite candy or mail-able snack?
Sugar babies, anything chocolate

What’s your favorite animal?
monkeys make me laugh

Do you have pets? What are their species/names/ages?
Dog / ¾ Border Collie-1/4 Golden Retriever / Cheyenne / 2 ½ years old

If you were a color what color would you be?
Let’s go with green. I don’t know why and I’m not well-versed in color theory type stuff. I just love green, am drawn to green and notice green. (I also live in the Willamette Valley – land of rain, therefore, green)

Describe your favorite shirt (yours or someone else’s)..
I have a denim blue colored, 100% cotton long sleeved knit t-shirt that fits me perfectly. I would wear it every day but that’s gross. Even better, I got it at the second hand store in perfect condition.

What is your most inspiring image, flower, or object in nature?
I love flowers with all their color shades and interesting shapes; especially wildflowers because most of them have all that grassy, weedyness in amongst the pretty colors.

Tell me the best quote you’ve ever heard or read.
“He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain that which he cannot lose.” Jim Elliot

Do you have a wishlist? no

Anything else you’d like to share with the group today?
Eat chocolate
